Not to sound all cliché but it’s incredibly wild how quickly time flies when you’re just tryna manage life.
I knew it had been a minute since my last post but didn’t realize it’s been a lil over 7 months worth of those minutes. But what else can I say, other than the latest pop phrase that describes the random chaos of life, “life really been lifing”.
As I’ve been allowing my experiences to show me things that my conscious mind so casually overlooks, I’ve come back to this neat trick that helps me deal with the unfolding of life’s events: Just breathe and flow with it while reminding myself to be patient and have more compassion towards myself as I’m just now learning where the handle bars are to this life thing.
Balance. Is. Everything.
Imagine trying to surf for the first time with no guidance other than the visuals from watching others try to figure it out on their own. To sink or to float, the question bouncing around my mind all chaotically and what not. Imagine not even knowing how to get on the board though, or when the best time would be to get on or even what type of board would be best for your unique body to navigate an unknown terrain of fluid that has a mind of its own. Yea, that’s what this life been like for me.
Luckily though, after observing and analyzing my many missteps as well as the missteps of others, I’ve kind of figured out my kinda board and the best way for me to approach the waters of life.
Cautiously, deliberately, whimsically, practically, joyfully, fluidly, graciously, faithfully.
Cautious because it’s so easy to jump out there too soon in the entirely wrong way and get swept up by a monsoon due to not paying good enough attention and being patient while observing the motion of the wind and the waves.
Deliberate because doing anything with half a mind will get you quickly swept up, caught up and/or hit and drown. Intention is, also, everything. It gives you the loosely planned road map for the next few steps you’re about to take, why and for how long. Most importantly, it helps lessen, if not rid, you of the second guessing and other wonderings of other ways. Being deliberate calms your overthinking mind enough to just get going.
Whimsical because what better way to approach something new, necessary and frightening other than to romanticize it. Imagining myself as the lead character of the most interesting movie of romance and mystery has got to the be one of the top life hacks I’ve learned over the years. It really makes everything easier to overcome. Mostly due to the fact that the lead character never dies in the beginning, if at all.
Practically because balance. Lol that’s really it. You can’t be too whimsical out there in a humongous body of water that you have little to no information about or else you may not be aware of the dangers around you until they’re right up in your face or you’re being guzzled down their throat. You gotta stay grounded in reality to navigate accordingly.
Joyfully because being genuinely pleased and happy begets serenity which is a type of accompaniment that makes any great journey better. No matter the unknown.
Fluidly because keeping your options open are best to prevent frustration when one way doesn’t work out the way you’d hoped. Plus, the motto, let go and let flow hits a bit deeper when you’re literally navigating unconfined fluid.
Gracious because to show kindness to yourself is to have the capacity to extend that kindness to all that you encounter on your journey which can make all the difference in how far and long you go as well as where you end up.
Faithful because anything less than complete trust in the guidance throughout your journey will surely lead you into spaces where you are lost and confused in the middle of nowhere with no clue on which way to turn. Trust, know and all will be well.
